My original GGF who settled in Pennsylvania in 1721 was a Lastmaker. I had to look it up 😮 and now I have a photo of what he did. Thanks!

These remind me of moccasins, except without the Native American designs/fringes.

So they’re actually wood — they’re custom made in the shape of the person’s foot whose name is on them, and then they use the wood “last” to create bespoke shoes that will perfectly fit their feet.
