In medical legal terms, elopement is a patient who is incapable of caring for himself and leaves the hospital undetected and unsupervised. It can refer to patients with dementia as well as patients who are fully aware of what they are doing but just don’t want to be there. :O
So the sign probably means “oops! We got a runner!”
You’d think they’d figured out a more permanent solution with the second sign “Elevator does not stop at the 3rd floor.” Although it seems like the top sign was added because the bottom one wasn’t helping….hmmm. I guess if you’re in the elevator and it opens on the 3rd floor you should be ready to defend against and repulse any invaders.
Certainly sounds scary… Whatever it means…

On the elevator of St Francis hospital in San Francisco. I still have no idea what it means!

It is probably related to exit-seeking patients (behavioral issues, Alzheimers).

Neat. I was just going to ask my Revit teacher if “elopement” happened to mean anything when it comes to construction of elevators.
